​​Transportation Management Center (TMC) Operations Specialist in the Nashville DOT traffic management center in Nashville, TN.

 

The primary responsibilities will be managing the traffic signal network in response to planned special events, crashes, and other highway events, with the primary goal of responder and motorist safety.

Responsibilities

​

  • Work in a dynamic operation environment with the primary goal of motorist safety

  • Operate access and control traffic management devices (CCTV, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), etc.) and other equipment to monitor significant portions of the Davidson County Metropolitan Government highway systems

  • Support first responders, emergency management, and law enforcement communications.

  • Activate appropriate response(s) to detect and/or report incidents, including, but not limited to, dispatch of service patrols, location assistance to first responders, and notification to the public

  • Generate, receive, and respond to calls about various persons/organizations/agencies

  • Record all appropriate control room activities

  • Create and submit internal work orders for equipment failures or malfunctions

  • When directed by NDOT, function as a member of the emergency response team

  • Employ various software applications to control ITS field devices, monitor traffic flow, and perform data analysis

  • Review and ensure the accuracy of all data submissions in operator logs, reports, and documentation

  • Provide guidance to responders and motorists during severe traffic-related events

  • Post alerts, notifications, and messages as needed

  • Assist in coordinating responses to disasters and high-profile special events that affect the roadway

  • Performs other related work as directed.

Minimum Qualifications

​

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Experience in public safety, emergency management, transportation dispatch, customer service, or similar environment is preferred

  • Skills in interpersonal relationships and ability to work well within a diverse group

  • Demonstrated ability to write reports and correspondence

  • Ability to communicate written and verbal information in English

  • Ability to take calls, dispatch on radio or telephone, and otherwise clearly communicate information over a radio system or network in a clear and concise manner

  • Ability to use traffic control computer applications

  • Capable of multi-tasking and working in a fast-paced environment

  • Familiarity with local roadways preferred

  • Ability to use computers in “Windows-based applications”

  • Ability to work alternate work schedules and be on-call as necessary

  • Starting Salary: $24.00- $25.00/hr.
